Polished Concrete

Polished Concrete is a contemporary flooring option that offers the aesthetic appeal of natural stone while also providing exceptional durability and low maintenance costs. We utilize the latest technology and techniques, including diamond grinding, concrete consolidators, dyes, color stains, and sealing guards, to transform your existing concrete slab into a high-performance, low-maintenance work of art.

Features

  • Exceptional Durability: Able to withstand heavy foot traffic and regular use

  • Minimal Maintenance: Simply clean with a dust mop or pH-neutral floor cleaner

  • Enhanced Slip Resistance: Meets or exceeds industry standards

  • Exceptional Reflectivity: Customizable options for gloss level, from matte to high gloss finishes

  • Exceptional Stain Resistance: The use of concrete densifiers and sealers provide extra time to clean spills before staining occurs

  • Customizable Aesthetic: Can be stained, stenciled, and engraved to suit any design or aesthetic preference

Process

The process of polishing concrete involves several steps depending on the desired level of sheen or gloss. It starts with a thorough grinding of the surface to remove any imperfections, followed by patching and filling of cracks, honing with ceramic or hybrid bonded diamonds, application of a densifying agent, and polishing with resin bonded diamonds. To finish, a stain-resistant coating is applied to protect the surface from stains.

The initial grind is an essential and labor-intensive step that determines the final outcome of the polished concrete. Depending on the condition of the concrete and the desired aggregate exposure level, the starting grit size can vary. A lower grit size results in increased duration of the project and more aggregate exposure, while a higher grit size results in decreased duration of the project and less aggregate exposure. The final grit size achieved will determine the final sheen of the polished concrete.

The unique characteristic of polished concrete is that the shine comes from the concrete itself, as a result of the grinding and polishing process. This is what makes it a durable and long-lasting flooring option. Each floor is unique and may require more or less steps to produce the desired look. We take into account the specific needs of each project and use our expertise to deliver a polished concrete floor that exceeds expectations.

Finishes

There are 3 primary types of finishes that can be achieved with polished concrete. These finishes can be understood in terms of the amount of work and effort put into the process, with more work resulting in a longer-lasting and more resilient finish. Each finish offers unique benefits and can be tailored to suit the specific needs of your project.

  • This finish offers a smooth surface and little to no aggregate exposure and offers the following benefits:

    • Minimal surface grinding

    • Maintains the natural look of concrete

    • Time-efficient option

  • This finish offers a smooth surface and scattered small aggregate showing. It offers the following benefits:

    • Aggregate exposure of about 1/16 inch depth

    • Creates a unique and scattered finish

    • Variety of small aggregate sizes exposed

    • Time-efficient option

  • This finish offers a surface with large aggregate showing, and can be customized to achieve a Terrazzo-like look by exposing aggregate. It is ideal for settings where design qualities and reflectivity are a priority. It offers the following benefits:

    • Aggregate exposure of about 1/4 inch depth

    • Creates a large, scattered terrazzo-like look

    • Distinctly unique finish

    • Can be time-consuming
